Job Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs tree care management to ensure the safety of people and property and promote tree health in a campus environment. Must understand and apply current ANSI Z1.33.1 and ANSI S300 standards, ISA tree pruning guidelines, and OSHA regulations.

Job Duties

– Perform tree care management in order to maintain health, strength and attractiveness of trees
– Inspect trees to identify serious problems, such as; disease or pest conditions, fungus, fruiting bodies, decayed trunks or branches, cracks or other structural weaknesses, or anything indicating a potential hazard and take corrective action
– Install tree cables, braces, and supports when needed
– Climb trees when reach by aerial truck in not possible
– Operate a variety of equipment such as; chain saws, brush chipper, aerial truck, stump grinders, and hedge trimmers
– Inspect and maintain ropes and rigging equipment
– Submit tree removal and/or replacement recommendations
– Maintain tree work records and submit reports
– Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

Education and Experience
– Five years experience minimum in tree care management
– Must have a valid Tree Workers Certificate
– Knowledge of names, characteristics, and pruning requirements of tree species
– Knowledge of rigging, basic knots and climbing methods, aerial rescue techniques, and materiel and equipment used in tree work
– Valid California class C license. Class B license and air brake certification a plus
– Valid 1st aid and CPR certification

Physical
– Must be able to lift 50-80 lbs on a regular basis and ability to climb/work at considerable heights
– Must be approved by examining physician for this position

– Certification as an Arborvitae
